Maciej Nuzia · About
I have been writing software since 2007
I run Softwarelabs on my own. I work with companies outside the software industry whose way of working does not fit an off-the-shelf product. I start by talking to the people who will use the system, then design and build it. I remain responsible after launch. I also take over systems written by someone else.
The road here
I started by writing code. Today I am responsible for the whole system
I started as a programmer in 2007. Someone else decided what should be built, and my job was to make it work.
Over time, I began making those decisions too. That is when I learned that a system can be well written and still be something nobody needs. Before I write the first line of code, I ask who will use it and why.
I have run my own company since 2018. I talk to the client, write the requirements, design the solution and write the code. If I design something badly, I am the one who has to fix it later.
How I work
First, I want to see what the work looks like day to day
I ask someone to walk me through their work, step by step. That shows me where it stalls and which parts of the written procedure people skip to keep up.
Those conversations sometimes make the scope smaller. That is a good result. The system should cover only what the company actually needs.
I work out the scope with the owner and team leads. I design the system with the people who will use it. Without their input, the new screen can easily end up next to the old spreadsheet the company still relies on.
